The column linked here from the New York Daily News is authored by four former investigators for the city’s Civilian Complaint Review Board. Written to examine the police-reform record of Democratic primary mayoral candidate Maya Wiley (as of this writing awaiting the result of the city’s new ranked-choice voting system), the piece concludes by spotlighting legislation for an elected civilian review board as the only realistic proposal. The bill, called the Community POWER Act (Police Oversight with Elected Review), is a product of the work of a years-long grassroots campaign that the Freedom Socialist Party played a key role in launching.
