The video link below features Carmel Gates, General Secretary of the Nothern Ireland Public Services Alliance (personal capacity) – the largest trade union in the North of Ireland – and a Militant Left (CWI Ireland) supporter, speaking last weekend at the ‘Bloody Sunday Trust’ debate, in Derry City, on the future role of the trade unions.

The Bloody Sunday Trust commemorates the massacre of 14 unarmed demonstrators by British soldiers, in Derry, on 30 January 1972. Those killed were protesting, along with thousands of others, against internment without trial and for civil rights.

Also speaking at last weekend’s event were recently retired General Secretary of the (UK) Trade Union Congress (TUC), Francis O’Grady, General Secretary of Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU), Owen Reidy, and President of Derry Trades Union Council, Niall McCarroll
