Fatal train crash in Greece: A crime against the people that was bound to happen

Late in the evening of 28 February, two
trains, one passenger and one cargo, running on the Athens-Thessaloniki
line collided head-on near the city of Larissa, resulting in the injury
and the tragic loss of dozens of people.

From the first moment, the GS of the CC of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE), Dimitris Koutsoumbas, stated the following:

“It is a day of unspeakable sorrow for
the unprecedented fatal train accident in Tempe, but also of anger for
how it is possible that human lives are lost in this tragic way.

We demand that there be a full investigation into the causes of this tragedy, that nothing be hidden or covered up.

We express our deepest condolences to
the families of the victims. Efforts to locate the missing persons
should be intensified and full support should be given to the injured.”

This is a crime that happened after
years of initially “liberalizing” and then privatizing railways in
Greece, under the responsibility of all the governments of ND, PASOK and
SYRIZA. The latter was even the one that reached and voted for the
agreement to privatize TRAINOSE and sell it to the Italian monopoly
“Ferrovie” in 2017.

The communist trade unionists in the
railways have been sounding the alarm about the situation through
successive statements. The most recent one was issued on 7 February 2023,
where they pointed out that “It is now outrageous that these
incidents are almost a daily occurrence and that no substantial measures
are taken, no improvements in infrastructure and operation are
initiated, no control is exercised over the actors involved and no
responsibilities are sought. Like previous governments, the current one
has other priorities and not the safe movement of citizens. They perceive
safety as a cost.”

Un crimen anunciado contra el pueblo

A última hora de la tarde del 28 de
febrero, dos trenes, uno de pasajeros y otro de mercancías, que
circulaban entre Atenas-Tesalónica, colisionaron cerca de la ciudad de
Larissa, provocando la trágica muerte de decenas de personas y un número
aún mayor de heridos.

El Secretario General del KKE, Dimitris Koutsoumbas, destacó desde el primer momento que:

“Es un día de indecible sufrimiento por
el accidente ferroviario mortal sin precedentes en Tempe, pero también
de rabia por cómo es posible que se pierdan vidas humanas de esta forma
tan trágica.

Exigimos que se investiguen a fondo las causas de esta tragedia, que no se oculte ni se encubra nada.

Expresamos nuestro más sentido pésame a
las familias de las víctimas. Se deben intensificar los esfuerzos para
localizar a los atrapados y prestar todo el apoyo a los heridos.

Se trata de un crimen que llega después
de años de “liberalización” inicialmente y luego privatización de los
ferrocarriles en Grecia, bajo la responsabilidad de todos los gobiernos
(ND, PASOK y SYRIZA) con el gobierno de SYRIZA siendo el que concluyó y
votó a favor del acuerdo para la privatización de TRAINOSE y su
concesión al monopolio italiano “Ferrovie” en 2017.

Los sindicalistas comunistas del
ferrocarril han dado la voz de alarma en repetidas ocasiones sobre la
situación de los ferrocarriles, la última de ellas el 7 de febrero de
2023, donde afirmaban:

“Resulta ya indignante que se produzcan
[accidentes] casi a diario y que no se tomen medidas sustanciales, no se
realicen mejoras en la infraestructura y en el funcionamiento, no se
controle a los agentes implicados y no se reclamen responsabilidades.

Como los gobiernos anteriores, el actual
también tiene otras prioridades, no el transporte seguro de los
ciudadanos. Consideran la seguridad como un coste”.

Поздно вечером 28 февраля недалеко от
города Лариса произошло лобовое столкновение двух поездов. Междугородний
пассажирский поезд, следовавший из Афин в Салоники, столкнулся с
грузовым поездом, в результате которого погибли десятки людей, сотни
получили ранения.

Генсек ЦК КПГ Димитрис Куцумбас с самого начала заявил:

«В этот день мы переживаем неописуемое
горе в связи с беспрецедентной железнодорожной аварией, произошедшей в
Темпи, но также мы испытываем чувство негодования по поводу того, что
человеческие жизни могут быть потеряны таким трагическим образом.

Мы требуем провести полное расследование причин этой трагедии, без сокрытия и замалчивания фактов.

Мы выражаем наши глубочайшие
соболезнования семьям погибших. Следует приложить все усилия по поиску
пропавших без вести и оказать всестороннюю поддержку пострадавшим».

Речь идет о преступлении, которое было
совершено несколько лет назад, с момента «либерализации», а затем
приватизации железных дорог Греции, ответственность за которую несут все
правительства партий НД, ПАСОК, а также СИРИЗА, которая, по сути,
подписала соглашение о приватизации TRAINOSE (греческих железных дорог)
и передаче их итальянской монополии «Ferrovie» в 2017 году.

Профсоюзные деятели – коммунисты,
работающие в сфере железнодорожного транспорта, неоднократно заявляли и
били тревогу по поводу сложившейся на железной дороге ситуации. Так, в
последнем заявлении от 7 февраля 2023 года, в частности, указывалось:

«Приводит в гнев то, что является почти
ежедневным явлением, и то, что не принимается никаких существенных мер,
не наблюдается никаких улучшений в инфраструктуре и эксплуатации, не
осуществляется контроль над вовлеченными организациями, не происходит
никакого привлечения к ответственности.

Нынешнее правительство, как и предыдущие
правительства, отдает предпочтение другим приоритетам, а не безопасному
передвижению граждан. Они рассматривают безопасность как затраты».
