The member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee, Nikos Sofianos, is the candidate of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) for the mayorship of the Greek capital in October 8th regional and municipal elections.

An experienced KKE cadre, with a long political and social activity, Sofianos has been a member of the Athens Municipal Council since 2010 under the banner of the KKE-supported “Athens People’s Rally“.

For 12 years, he has been the genuine voice of the city’s working class in the Municipal Council, consistently exposing the anti-popular, anti-worker policies of the Municipality’s administrations.

Nikos Sofianos, 57, has served in various party positions, including the one of the Secretary of the Central Council of the Communist Youth of Greece (KNE) from 1991 to 2001.

In the 2019 municipal elections, the “People’s Rally” had gained 15,561 votes and 7.46%, thus electing four councilors.

For the position of the regional governor of Attica, the candidate will be Yannis Protoulis, 45, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the KKE, also a member of the Attica regional council since 2014. He has been Secretary of the Central Council of KNE from 2007 to 2011 and a member of the Parliament for the Athens ‘B constituency from 2007 to 2012.

For the municipality of Piraeus, the “People’s Rally” candidate will be Nikos Abatielos, MP and former Secretary of KNE.
