In a statement about the situation on November 7, the General Secretary of the Portuguese Communist Party (PCP), Paulo Raimundo, stressed out:
“In view of the news that was made public
today, the PCP reaffirms that it is necessary for the ongoing
investigations to be concluded, all the facts to be investigated and the
appropriate consequences to be withdrawn.
The developments in this situation, which includes the resignation of
the Prime Minister, are a result of the weakening of the government,
which is inseparable from its political options that leave the main
problems of the workers and people unanswered and unsolved.
The PCP recalls that we are facing a government and an absolute
majority constituted based on the argument of stability and a blackmail
operation that had the collaboration of the President of the Republic.
In terms of the Constitution, it is not mandatory that the Prime
Minister’s resignation must be followed by the dissolution of the
Assembly of the Republic.
We reaffirm, however, that it is up to the President of the Republic
to make an evaluation and final decision on future institutional
developments, assuming the responsibilities that arise from them.
In the current political and institutional framework, one cannot
leave out the dissolution of the Assembly of the Republic and the
calling of elections, elections for which the PCP is prepared.
What the country’s situation demands is the rejection of the
right-wing policy that has been pursued by the PS government, which in
everything that serves big capital is accompanied by PSD, CDS, Chega and
IL, and the implementation of an alternative policy that ensures the
increase in wages and pensions, the defence of the NHS and access to
healthcare, the guarantee of the right to housing, the rights of
children and parents, the defence of sovereignty and development.
An alternative policy in which the PCP and the CDU have a leading
role, and which will be possible to implement with its reinforcement and
the struggle of the workers and the people.”
Sobre a situação polĂtica decorrente da demissĂŁo do Primeiro-Ministro
Face Ă s notĂcias que foram hoje tornadas
pĂșblicas, o PCP reafirma que Ă© necessĂĄrio que sejam concluĂdas as
investigaçÔes que estão em curso, apurados todos os factos e retiradas
as devidas consequĂȘncias.
Os desenvolvimentos desta situação, em que se inclui a demissão do
Primeiro-Ministro, sĂŁo consequĂȘncia da fragilização do Governo que Ă©
indissociĂĄvel das suas opçÔes polĂticas que deixam sem resposta e
solução os principais problemas dos trabalhadores e do povo.
O PCP relembra que estamos perante um Governo e uma maioria absoluta
constituĂdos a partir do argumento da estabilidade e de uma operação de
chantagem que contou com a colaboração do Presidente da RepĂșblica.
No plano constitucional, nĂŁo Ă© obrigatĂłrio que Ă demissĂŁo do
Primeiro-Ministro suceda obrigatoriamente a dissolução da Assembleia da
RepĂșblica.
Reafirmamos no entanto que cabe ao Presidente da RepĂșblica a
avaliação e decisão final dos desenvolvimentos institucionais futuros,
assumindo as responsabilidades que daĂ decorrem.
No actual quadro polĂtico e institucional nĂŁo pode deixar de se
considerar a saĂda de dissolução da Assembleia da RepĂșblica e a
convocação de eleiçÔes, eleiçÔes para as quais o PCP estå preparado.
O que a situação do PaĂs exige Ă© a rejeição da polĂtica de direita
que tem sido prosseguida pelo Governo PS, que em tudo o que serve o
grande capital é acompanhada por PSD, CDS, Chega e IL, e a concretização
de uma polĂtica alternativa que assegure o aumento de salĂĄrios e
pensĂ”es, a defesa do SNS e do acesso Ă saĂșde, a garantia do direito Ă
habitação, os direitos das crianças e dos pais, a defesa da soberania e
do desenvolvimento.
Uma polĂtica alternativa protagonizada pelo PCP e a CDU e que serĂĄ
possĂvel, com o seu reforço e pela luta dos trabalhadores e do povo,
levar por diante.
