Many Tube workers are frustrated after RMT union leaders called off strikes.
Workers planned a series of rolling strikes from Friday of last week to Thursday of this week.
A statement from RMT reps and activists says. âWe are RMT London Underground reps and activists who oppose our leadershipâs decision to suspend planned strikes.
âA repsâ meeting, held on 30 October and attended by over 100 people, produced a clear majority that strikes should proceed.
âThe majority of the meeting was also clear that the latest offer did not come close enough to meeting key union demands.â
These include âan aboveâinflation pay rise for all membersâ and âprogress towards a reduced working weekâ.
The statement acknowledges âthe progress made in forcing LUL to withdraw its threat to expand banded pay and impose âjob familiesâ.â But it adds, âThis was an attack launched by the employer after negotiations began. Removing this threat should have allowed us to refocus on our initial demands.
âThe suspension of strikes took place without any improved offer being tabled.
âIt was therefore in direct contravention of the wishes of a mass repsâ meeting, and makes a mockery of RMTâs democratic culture.â
