Transgender people and their allies have planned statewide protests against anti-trans legislation for this weekend.
They are demonstrating Saturday against three bills already filed in the South Dakota Legislature: House Bill 1005, which restricts bathroom use by sex assigned at birth, and House Bill 1006 and Senate Bill 46, which both would prevent trans girls from playing on girls’ sports teams.
These bills were filed before the official start of the 2022 Legislative Session, which commences Tuesday afternoon when Gov. Kristi Noem gives her State of the State address.
In conjunction with the attacks on Black people’s voting rights and women’s reproductive rights, there is a huge wave of anti-trans bills and measures being pushed in state legislatures this year. We need unity to fight back!
